How I Found A Cure For My Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s Foot is a nightmare. When I had mine, for 9 years, it was embarrassing, painful, and when I couldn’t get rid of it, I felt hopeless. The many products and treatments I tried over the years all promised curing results but what I experienced was only temporary relief. There were fleeting moments of hope with some treatments, but they were soon smashed by the return onslaught of the evil fungus. The best I could do was to slow the spread and try to contain the fungus with consistent lotion and powder treatment but I could not find anything that would really cure the problem.

It is darkest before the dawn. I had resolved to live with this misery the rest of my life when I was told of yet another athletes foot treatment that was supposedly producing curing results for people. I had tried so many things by that time, what was one more. To my amazement this athletes foot treatment started to gain ground and hold the ground on the infected area. After about 2 months the fungus was gone. I continued treatment for another month because I was sure it would come back, but it never did. That was 8 now 10 years ago.

Since finding this miracle cure my life has been able to return to normal. I no longer have to deal with the daily pain and suffering involved with athletes foot fungus. I don’t have to be embarrassed at the pool or beach when I have to go bare foot. I don’t have to stop in the middle of the day to change socks or re-apply athletes foot lotion to stop the crazy itching. I am free of the athletes foot fungus and I am truly grateful to the person that turned me on to the solution that finally cured the problem.

I have created this ebook to pass along the miracle solution to other people that suffer from this miserable problem. In the book I explain in detail the exact products I used and how I used them to cure the athletes foot problem. There is also 9 other similar stories from people that have suffered from athlete’s foot for a period of time and then found their miracle cure. I have included them to give you a variety of cures from regular people just like myself.

A 10 step program for healthy feet. Its vital for a diabetic to do daily checks of their feet to make sure there are no infections. Here is a checklist to maintain the health management for healthy feet.

Step #1. Have your doctor check your feet regularly.

See your family doctor regularly to be sure your diabetes is in good control. Have your doctor look at your feet at every visit.

Step #2. Wear the right shoes and socks.

Don’t wear shoes that fit too tightly or pinch your feet. Choose thick cotton socks and well-cushioned shoes with plenty of room in the toes. (Look for shoes with a high toe box.) They will help keep your feet healthy. Never go barefoot.

Step #3. Check your feet every day.

Look at your feet very carefully every day to be sure you have no cuts, scrapes or blisters. Look at every part of your foot, even between your toes.

Step #4. Treat cuts, scrapes and blisters. See your doctor if a wound does not heal.

If you get a small cut, scrape or blister on your foot, wash the area gently with soap and water. Don’t break the blister. Put an antibiotic cream on the wound several times a day. If the wound does not heal in a few days, see your doctor.

Step #5. Keep your feet clean.

Gently wash your feet with soap and water every day. Pat your feet dry. Put on a moisturizing cream or ointment (for example, petroleum jelly). Don’t put too much moisturizer between your toes, however.

Step #6. Cut your toenails correctly.

Cut your toenails straight across the top, not curved at the sides, to prevent ingrown toenails. Ask your doctor for help if your nails are too thick or if they crack when you try to cut them.

Step #7. Treat athlete’s foot.

Athlete’s foot is more common in people who have diabetes, and it can cause problems. If you have athlete’s foot, wear a different pair of shoes every other day. This lets your shoes dry out. Always wear absorbent cotton socks. See your doctor if over-the-counter treatments don’t clear up your athlete’s foot.

Step #8. Get proper treatment for thickened skin, calluses and corns.

Many people with diabetes get thickened skin, calluses or corns over the bony spots on their feet. Don’t trim or cut these spots at home with razor blades or other sharp tools. Ask your doctor how to treat these spots.

Step #9. Avoid heating pads and hot water foot soaks.

Because diabetes can hurt the nerves in your feet, you might not be able to tell if something is hurting your feet. It’s best not to use heating pads or hot water soaks, since you could burn your feet without knowing it.

Step #10. Take action to improve your circulation.

High blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and smoking can harm the circulation in your feet and keep sores from healing. Ask your doctor for help if you have any of these problems.

What is Athlete’s Foot?

Athlete’s foot is a common skin infection caused by the dermatophyte fungi which are the ringworm fungi (tinea). The infection can occur anywhere on the body but commonly infects the feet due to the warm, moist and dark environment. Breeding grounds for the fungus include swimming pools, showers, and locker rooms. The infection was common among athletes who use these facilities frequently and so the term “athlete’s foot” became popular. The truth is you do not have to be an athlete to get athlete’s foot, in fact it is estimated that near 70% of the population will be infected with tinea pedis at some time in their lives.

Symptoms of Athlete’s Foot

There are three types of Athlete’s Foot.

Toe web infection

This is the most common type of athlete’s foot and usually occurs between the two smallest toes but can occur between any set of toes or all of them.

This type begins with skin that feels soft and moist and can have some itching and burning involved. It may get worse if not treated and can spread across the foot to other toes and start to move up the foot.

Moccasin-type Infection

A long lasting(chronic) infection. This may begin with minor irritation, dryness, itching and burning but will progress to a thickened, scaling, cracked and peeling skin on the sole of the foot or heel. In some severe cases the toenails become infected and can thicken, crumble and fall off. This type can also appear in the palm of a hand.

Vesicular Infection

This is the least common type of infection and begins with a sudden outbreak of large fluid filled areas under the skin. The blisters often develop on the skin of the instep but can also develop between the toes, on the heel or on the sole of top of the foot. Occasional reoccurrence can happen after the initial infection. The infection may occur in the same area or in another area such as the arms, chest or fingers. Scaly skin may be present between outbreaks.

Possible complications of Athlete’s Foot

The complications of athlete’s foot include the potential, if untreated, to spread to other parts of the body or other people mainly your family members. The fungus may spread to your legs, toenails, hands, fingernails, and essentially any body area.

Infection of bacteria can occur due to the injury of the skin by the fungus. The natural protective barrier is broken and bacteria and yeasts can enter and the broken skin and cause bad smell, or an inflammation known as cellulitis.

How to treat Athlete’s Foot

Treatments can be divided into two parts.

The first step in treatment is to make the infected area less suitable for the athletes foot fungus to grow. This means keeping the area clean and dry with good hygiene. Use cotton socks whenever possible and remove shoes and let the feet breathe.

The second part of treatment is the use of topical antifungal creams and external medications. Treatment should be continued for at least four weeks and performed daily.

Prevention of infections of athlete’s foot

Avoid walking barefoot in public showers, locker rooms, pool decks, etc. Sandals or some form of footwear should be worn at all times.

Do not share footware and avoid rental footwear, such as bowling shoes or roller skates.

If rental equipment is used or any of the conditions mentioned above unavoidable, clean and powder feet as soon as possible after the occurrence.

When to seek medical treatment for athlete’s foot

If the infection is not clearing up and increased swelling and redness or bleeding are present, see your health care practictioner. Bacterial infection may also be occurring which makes it necessary for an antibiotic pill to counteract the infection. If fungal nail is present or you are a diabetic or have a compromised immune system, you should also see your physician for treatment.

Doctors that treat athlete’s foot.

Dermatologists are skin disorder specialists and can treat athlete’s foot. Family medical physicians, pediatricians, podiatrists (foot doctors) and other practitioners may also treat this common infection.

A question asked by all who experience athlete's foot and other ringworm infections. The fact is I cured my athlete's foot after having it for nine years.

Great question and certainly one asked by everyone that is unfortunate enough to experience athlete’s foot – no matter how severe or mild the case may be. It is an uncomfortable experience and one I endured for nine years. I have put this site together mainly for the purpose of exploring and sharing the variety of remedies you commonly find for this problem. I would say that due to the vast suggestions of home remedies and endless OTC lotions and powders there is no one definitive cure. All I know is – I did cure my athlete’s foot (tinea pedis).

There was a time when I resolved to be stuck with the problem my entire life and as it was spreading up my feet and across more toes I remember thinking that at some point it was going to overtake my leg as well. Then I learned it could spread to other areas of the body as well and really started to be concerned about what to do. I felt hopeless because I had tried to treat the infection with some OTC medications that seemed to show improvements but never completely cured the problem. I had even gone to the doctor and been prescribed an ointment that didn’t seem to perform any better than the ones I was already using. I felt like it was something I was going to have work hard at managing the rest of my life but had resolved to the idea I would never get rid of it. It was painful and embarrassing and spreading – it sucked.

There are many different home remedies that are offered on this site as well as medications and products. I believe that some work for some people and some work for others. I also believe that it depends on the severity of the problem. In other words – some anti-fungal treatments might correct the problem if the area is small but it is has spread and covers a large area with blisters and cracking that same treatment might not be very effective.

Here is what I know – I had it really bad for a long time and tried many different treatments – many of them are on this site. How I cured it was a combination of some things both in treatment and daily routine of care and treatment. It did not just vanish overnight, it took some time but it did go away.

I have written an ebook describing exactly how I cured my Athlete’s Foot. There are also 9 other real life stories of how people have found a cure for their athlete’s foot and ringworm.

In the meantime I will tell you this. You need to be on top of your infection – do not let a day go by that you do not treat it with whatever you are using. I would suggest using a combination of anti-fungal medication ointments or natural oils and powder with whatever soaking or other treatments you might use.

If you are using a treatment of any kind – please share it and some information about your problem and length of time you have had it.

How to create your own athlete's foot bath and powder. All natural ingredients and clay based powder for the best in moisture control - vital in the daily battle of controlling athlete's foot.

An All Natural Athlete’s Foot Cure Bath & Powder You Can Make At Home

Athlete’s Foot Bath
4 drops tea tree
4 drops lavender

6 drops goldenseal
2 drops sandalwood

1 tsp cinnamon

Add oils and cinnamon to 2 gallons warm water and mix well. Tea tree oil, lavender, golden-seal and cinnamon have anti-fungal abilities. The sandalwood will aid in healing the cracks and sores commen to athlete’s foot disease. Its antiseptic and soothing properties help keep feet safe from secondary problems that can arise from the open cracked skin. Patchouli could be substituted for the sandalwood as a skin regenerator. Patchouli also has fungicidal properties.

Athlete’s Foot Powder

This foot powder is clay based for the ultimate in absorbing moisture. One of the hardest things to do in managing athlete’s foot is how to keep the feet dry throughout the day. Unless you have the ability to go barefoot or take your shoes off during the day you are left with the problem of your feet sweating in your shoes and socks and that can set off the incredible itching that comes with the infection. I am a landscaper and when I was battling my athlete’s foot it was a given that my feet were going to sweat at some point during the day. I wish I had known about this then – give it a try.

Let me know how it works but I would suggest that this is not a cure all for the infection. The athlete’s foot needs to be battled from different angles. At least that was my experience and my experience lasted a long time until I finally put a combination together that cured it in about 2 months. I will share my experience with you soon but the use of a topical anti-fungal ointment such as Lotrimin would be a good addition to the foot powder treatment. You can get a variety of anti-fungal medications at drugstore.com.

I will work on getting links to the different products you will need to create this powder to make it as easy as possible for you to put it together. But for now – here is the recipe. Bon Appetite.

Ingredients:

3 oz. powdered clay

1 oz. arrowroot powder

1 oz. cinnamon

1 oz. powdered goldenseal herb

1 oz. rubbed sage leaves, finely ground

1 oz. baking soda

25 drops lavender essential oil

10 drops tea tree essential oil

10 drops geranium essential oil

10 drops cypress essential oil

5 drops eucalyptus essential oil

Materials & Tools:

Blender

Shaker to put the foot powder into for application

Directions:

First add the powdered clay, arrowroot, goldenseal, sage, cinnamon and baking soda to a blender and blend together.

Next add all the essential oils and blend them together with the dry ingredients. Put the mixture into the shaker and apply to the feet and in between the toes. Also apply powder to your shoes and socks daily.
