Great question and certainly one asked by everyone that is unfortunate enough to experience athlete’s foot – no matter how severe or mild the case may be. It is an uncomfortable experience and one I endured for nine years. I have put this site together mainly for the purpose of exploring and sharing the variety of remedies you commonly find for this problem. I would say that due to the vast suggestions of home remedies and endless OTC lotions and powders there is no one definitive cure. All I know is – I did cure my athlete’s foot (tinea pedis).
There was a time when I resolved to be stuck with the problem my entire life and as it was spreading up my feet and across more toes I remember thinking that at some point it was going to overtake my leg as well. Then I learned it could spread to other areas of the body as well and really started to be concerned about what to do. I felt hopeless because I had tried to treat the infection with some OTC medications that seemed to show improvements but never completely cured the problem. I had even gone to the doctor and been prescribed an ointment that didn’t seem to perform any better than the ones I was already using. I felt like it was something I was going to have work hard at managing the rest of my life but had resolved to the idea I would never get rid of it. It was painful and embarrassing and spreading – it sucked.
There are many different home remedies that are offered on this site as well as medications and products. I believe that some work for some people and some work for others. I also believe that it depends on the severity of the problem. In other words – some anti-fungal treatments might correct the problem if the area is small but it is has spread and covers a large area with blisters and cracking that same treatment might not be very effective.
Here is what I know – I had it really bad for a long time and tried many different treatments – many of them are on this site. How I cured it was a combination of some things both in treatment and daily routine of care and treatment. It did not just vanish overnight, it took some time but it did go away.
I have written an ebook describing exactly how I cured my Athlete’s Foot. There are also 9 other real life stories of how people have found a cure for their athlete’s foot and ringworm.
In the meantime I will tell you this. You need to be on top of your infection – do not let a day go by that you do not treat it with whatever you are using. I would suggest using a combination of anti-fungal medication ointments or natural oils and powder with whatever soaking or other treatments you might use.
If you are using a treatment of any kind – please share it and some information about your problem and length of time you have had it.

I had moccasin type athlete’s foot for 4 years (the kind that spreads over the sole and sides of the foot rather than in between the toes) and even though I had miserably resigned myself to never being able to cure it, suddenly I did, with apple cider vinegar. It completely killed it off and I can’t tell you how happy I was! I was somewhat skeptical before I tried it – but it really does work. You need to soak your feet in it daily – or dab the affected area with a vinegar soaked cotton ball. Give it two weeks and you should see a massive change. Good luck!
Beverley,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I believe there are a variety of cures for this common problem and maybe not the same for everyone but everyone should be able to find a cure. That is one of the main motivations to creating this site. I know I cured mine and I was in the same place as you. Resigned to never being able to cure it and suddenly I did. It was a miracle after 9 + years to see it disappear. It took me some time to really believe it was gone. Thanks again for sharing.
I have suffered for several years with it although I would think it was gone as I can go months without it and then out of the blue it shows up again. I only have one or two small red spots that appear on the sole of one foot. I use Lotrimin, etc. creams and sprays. I am wondering if my husband might have it and may keep reinfecting me throug the shower, bathroom floor, etc. He says he doesn’t have it but his feet are dry and cracked on the bottom. The last two weeks I have sprayed clorox cleaner in the shower before I use it just to hopefully kill any fungus but I don’t know if that is working as I have a break out now. Ugh!
When curing athletes foot does wearing flip flops speed up the process enough to be worth missing out on football and sports???
Ryan,
Flip flops will help because they will help to keep your feet dry. However, when I finally found the cure for my condition I was wearing work boots all day long running a landscape business. The exact process and products I put together to cure my problem are detailed in my ebook. I believe that if you pay close attention to the treatment plan you will be able to continue with sports and see the athlete’s foot disappear at the same time. Good Luck and let me know how it goes.
Hoping to get some advise. I have been struggling with athlete’s foot for about 2 years. This is the longest I have had it. I have tried so many creams and powders and nothing has happened. I work in an office setting so I have to wear dress shoes everyday. I have tried getting larger shoes but that seems not to help. I have been removing my shoes when I am at my desk so my feet can breath. I was hoping someone can relate and give me some advice.
Thanks!
Jason,
I can relate completely to your situation. There are 10 different solutions including what finally worked for me in my ebook. http://athletesfootcure.net/products-supplies/how-to-cure-athletes-foot/
