I learned about the apple cider vinegar treatment from my son who, like me, had cracks in his heels. I soaked once a day in a cake pan with a removable lid and changed out the solution once a week. I also use tea tree oil on the cracks. My feet are the healthiest they have been in years and I discontinued the treatment unless needed again. While it may sound extreme to some, I also use a small Black and Decker electric sander with a light grit sand paper to smooth up my heels once a week on the dry skin. Works great ...

I just wanted to add credibility to this article. I was having athletes foot continuously for many years and then found apple cider vinegar. I used the swab with full strength vinegar and in a matter of days the fungus was gone. It tries to come back but a little vinegar again and it is gone. Thanks for the opportunity to share this with your readers.

Julie, Thanks for your comments. Yes the shower is one of the places the fungus can thrive since the shower is warm and moist. You might try Lysol spray as a decontaminate in the bathroom, rugs and other surfaces. Washing the bedding regularly and spraying shoes with an anti-fungal spray would be a good practice as well. The real deal is getting your infection under control and cured. I don't know what methods you have tried but the ebook I put together has 10 real life testimonials, including my own, as to the exact methods, products and procedures used to cure the problem. Let me know your own results and experiences as they will help continue to improve this site

My 13 year old has had athletes foot for about a year... I now have the fungus... How do I prevent spreading and cross contamination??? It is my understanding that most cases are contracted by shared showers... Is this true??? What best kills the fungus on shower surfaces??? Once I start treatment - how do I treat the other surfaces exposed to the fungus??? ex. shoes, area rugs, bedding, pedicure/foot baths, etc. Thank your for your time and attention... Your website has been very helpful... Julie

Scott, glad it is working for you. Keep me informed as to the progress. You might try the lotrimin + powder during the day to keep a good base of anti-fungal and the powder will help keep the foot dry as the lotrimin gets a little greasy which can exasperate the problem.

Thanks for the info. I am using the apple cider vinegar, Lotrimin Ultra, and a prescription powder. I soak twice a day, use the powder in the morning and then the lotrimin at night. I think it's working. Slowly. Itchy but not as itchy. I've been using the mixture twice before disposal so I might stick with that and suck up the cost or whatever--just to keep it extra fresh. Thanks again.

Scott - thanks for a great question. I would use a 50/50 solution with warm water and change it out once every week to keep it fresh. You might try the cotton ball application method to give a more concentrated treatment and using less of the ACV. It would be my advise to use multiple treatments at the same time. Do not rely on one treatment at a time to overcome athlete’s foot. I suffered for years and finally put a combination together that worked but they all needed to be working together to overcome the infection. Good luck and keep me posted.

Can the apple cider vinegar mixture be reused? I need enough to almost cover my feet since the Athlete's foot comes up onto the heel. I don't want to go through gallons of the stuff per week.

Thanks for posting the article--I'm going to give it a try.
